With games like Players Unknown Battlegrounds making their way into the mobile market, then it shouldn’t come as a surprise that other games would follow suit. Ark: Survival Evolved is making its way over to mobile on June 14, 2018.
Ark: Survival Evolved is a survival game with dinosaurs and plasma guns. That simple description may give you an idea of what kind of silliness goes on. You punch trees and rocks for resources, build houses, ride dinosaurs, and get killed by a naked person with nothing but a rock.
Ark was originally released through Steam Early Access on June 2, 2015. The game was also released on Xbox One through their Preview Program on December 16, 2015 and PS4 on December 6, 2016. It later saw a full release on all systems on August 29, 2017.
Despite the game being a couple years old, a fair amount of people are still playing. The average number of players for the past 30 days was about 31,485.3.
The trailer says that all footage shown was captured live on an iPhone 8. So this may mean that older phones may have a harder time running the game compared to some newer phones.
Studio Wildcard, creators of Ark, have said that the game will be free-to-play, but there will be a subscription service called Primal Pass available for those who wish to pay for it. Primal Pass gives survivors access to an ad-free experience with reserved server slots, free gifts, and more.
My question is, if you don’t have Primal Pass, when are these ads going to show up? Are you going to have to watch an ad any time you open your inventory?
The problem with this is that the game doesn’t normally pause when you’re fiddling with menus. This means that if an ad pops up at an inopportune time, then you’re more likely to be killed. That would essentially force people into Primal Pass if they wanted to avoid tearing their hair out because of this game
I can also imagine it’s very likely that Ark is going to eat up your battery like crazy. The processing power needed to run a game like Ark is going to be killer to both iOS and Android.
In the end, I’m interested to see if Ark: Survival Evolved is going to be able to find an increase in player base on this new platform and bring them over to either PC or console.
