The Super Nintendo saw a lot of awesome games released for it. Most becoming well loved classics that many people hold in high regard. Chrono Trigger is a JRPG that is a perfect example of this. It has been cited as being one of the best video games of all time with a huge fan following behind it.
Today, Chrono Trigger got a full release on Steam, 23 years after its initial release back in 1995. This version of the game features two extra dungeons that appeared in the Nintendo DS and mobile versions, updated graphics, sound, and controls, and a new auto-save feature.
Square Enix, the owners of the Chrono Trigger IP, are advertising that “The timeless RPG classic returns”. Chrono Trigger is currently sporting a price tag of $20 and is sitting among the top sellers on Steam.
Along with all the new features, everyone who buys Chrono Trigger on Steam before April 2, 2018 will receive the Limited Edition version of the game. The Limited Edition includes a medley of five song files, composer Yasunori Mitsuda’s digital liner notes, and six wallpapers for your desktop in varying sizes.
As well as the Steam release, Chrono Trigger is also available on the Amazon App Store, but doesn’t include the bonus Limited Edition content that the Steam release does. This is the third app store Chrono Trigger.
The mobile version on iOS and Android also received a rather large update which brings cloud save features as well as Apple TV and Google Play Android TV support. This will allow people to play the game from their mobile device on their compatible television.
While Chrono Trigger is beloved by many, most of the user review are negative. People are complaining about the awful user interface, illegible font, the lack of any graphics options besides resolution, and that it is a port from the mobile version instead of the Super Nintendo or Playstation version.
Even the positive reviews have something to complain about. This does not bode well for Square Enix, as the situation seems to have already blown up in their face. Fans of Chrono Trigger are not too happy that their beloved game classic being sold to them for $20 and ending up just being a crappy mobile port.
