Ubisoft Acquires Blue Mammoth Games

Today, video game publishing company Ubisoft has announced today their acquisition of the indie game company Blue Mammoth Games. Blue Mammoth Games have few games in their lifetime, the most notable being Brawlhalla.

Most people would know of Brawlhalla, seeing as how it is the most played fighting game on Steam with an average user base of 10,000 people every day and one of the top free-to-play games on PS4. Considering the popularity of the game, it’s no surprise that Ubisoft wanted to acquire them.

With the purchase of Blue Mammoth Games, Ubisoft acquires Blue Mammoths 21 employees who all have a strong background with online games. This is a good addition to Ubisoft’s roster, as the acquisition is expected to add immediate growth to Ubisoft’s earnings.

“The team at Blue Mammoth Games is expert at developing and running scalable, competitive, multiplayer online games, and they’ll be a great addition to Ubisoft’s network of studios,” said Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft NCSA. “With Brawlhalla, we’re getting a hugely popular and highly-profitable title that aligns with our strategy of expanding our audience and providing players with long-lasting, entertaining gaming experiences.”

The acquisition was finalized on March 1, 2018, but additional terms of the deal could not be disclosed to the public.

In an email from Michael Burk, Director of Corporate PR for Ubisoft, Michael said that Ubisoft plans "to help Blue Mammoth's games reach new players thanks to our global development and publishing expertise. It's too early to say exactly what the plans are, but rest assured we expect to be able to share more soon.”

This procurement weighs heavily in favor of Blue Mammoth as they now have the backing needed to properly support their game and bring more people into their community.

“We’re looking forward to leveraging Ubisoft’s expertise and resources to continue developing and supporting Brawlhalla for the long term, and to benefiting from their help in bringing the game to new players,” said Matthew Woomer and Lincoln Hamilton, Blue Mammoth Games founders.

And surprisingly, not only do Ubisoft and Blue Mammoth think that this is a move in the right direction, but some fans of Brawlhalla were also happy with this new addition to the Ubisoft family.

Having enjoyed the game myself, I too hope that Blue Mammoth can continue to support Brawlhalla and keep the game well alive with the assistance of Ubisoft.
