If I may take a moment of your time, I would like to discuss online multiplayer games like Overwatch, Payday 2, Battlefield 1, etc. and look at some of their more aggravated players who can give the game a bad name.
As I am an antisocial shut-in, I play a lot of online multiplayer games alone. But in games like Payday 2 where four players are usually required, I end up playing with three other strangers. I then have to coordinate with these people to complete the objectives and win.
Everyone has had experiences like this. At times, working with people in a game can be like trying to herd cats. Then add on top of that the team chat or voice chat. People get aggravated and end up venting their frustrations by screaming hate speech or blaming others for things outside of their control.
Now I’d like to also say that this is certainly not the case with everyone. In most cases it’s the vocal minority that are the ones who end up giving games a “toxic community” while kindhearted players remain silent in an attempt to not acknowledge these players or to avoid their wrath.
The people who get so wrapped up in games that they end up demanding blood if they lose a match confuse me. I like to think that everyone can reason out that, as all parents have said at one point or another, it’s just a game.
You won’t be banned from the game if you lose this match. You won’t become any less of a person if someone beats you.
If you are angry about losing ranks in a competitive mode, then just get them back. If you believe you’re a skilled player then you should have no issue winning your way back to where you were.
And if losing is a very big issue for you, there is a way to remedy the problem of constantly playing with strangers you may no gel with. Find friends to play with you, and if you can’t find enough friends, go online and search for people looking for a dedicated group to play with.
You’re not the only person that has ever wanted a specific group of people to play with. There are many sites likes Reddit or things like the Blizzard Forums where people constantly look for people to play with.
You paid for the game, you shouldn’t have to feel anything but enjoyment when playing it. Whether you are one of the people who find themselves getting angry at the game and other players, or if you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy being verbally harassed by other players.
Take the time and make the experience the best one possible for yourself and other players. No one should have to suffer and feel like shit because of others. If we all try our best, I think that we can help make these online communities surrounding these amazing games better for everyone.
