Can you believe that the original teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 came out 5 years ago? Since then, there have been a bunch of small like bits of information about the game, but nothing that clued us into what the game actually was.
At E3, CD Projekt Red, makers of the Witcher games and owners of Good Old Games, actually had something else to show for their years of hard work. They gave us another trailer.
While I am disappointed that they didn’t have any actual gameplay to show, I am happy that there is something else to see other than the woman getting shot in the rain we saw 5 years ago.
Watching the trailer carefully, we can get some more details about the game, the setting, and the character.
As it seems it’s CD Projekt’s MO to take a property they enjoy and turn it into a video game as they did with the Witcher, they did the same with Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk 2077 is adapted from the tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020.
The game is set in the sprawling metropolis of Night City, California. You play as a customizable character simply named “V”. The game appears to be a lot more bright and vibrant than the original teaser trailer lead on.
In a couple of scenes, we got a glimpse of what kind of weaponry might be available. Things like a tesla shotgun, what appeared to be some sort of rail gun, and some bog standard pistols and assault rifles.
We also got a look at some possible side activities that we may be able to partake in while exploring Night City. There were things like human versus robot boxing, bar games like pool, and a hologram strip club.
From watching the trailer, I kinda get a feeling from the game that it’s going to be about an even mix of serious, grimy, dystopian cyberpunk and fun, insane, wacky antics similar to that of Saints Row or Sunset Overdrive.
You can find more information and a wide variety of ways to talk about Cyberpunk 2077 on their site.
