The Division 2 is a Thing Apparently

The Division was a game that surprised me in a couple ways. It came out just before Taken King came out for Destiny, so I thought it would be riding nicely on their coat tails. At the beginning they were, but everything fell apart quite quickly.

With massive amounts of cheaters, enemies that got harder as you leveled up only in the sense of they could take more bullets before falling over, and little to no content after you did all the tedious side quests and the boring main story, The Division was set up for failure.

And now we have a gameplay trailer for the Division 2. I’m sure you’re as confused as I am. I thought that after the failure of the first installment, I thought they would have canned the Division property entirely.

This time, the game takes place in Washington instead of New York. While it’s not stated, one can assume that the plague that ravaged New York found its way over to Washington somehow.

You take on the role as a member of the secret military task force, The Division, once again and attempt to, as they say in the gameplay trailer “take back the capitol.”

We can see that a lot of the city has been overgrown with flora. But there are some things that don’t entirely make sense to make. Like how did Air Force One crash if it’s a disease that caused all the problems? I get that it looks cool to fight in the wreckage of the President’s airplane, but I don’t get why it crashed in the first place.

We get a glimpse of the map and can see that it looks a lot more expansive than the map in the first Division. It also appears to be more populated with activities to do, like capturing things called “control points” which seem to just be another way of saying ‘an enemy camp’.

Making a reappearance is the abilities from the first Division. Now they may not be the exact same abilities, but they follow the same general theme of support type, offense type, and defense type.

A new feature is mantling. You can climb over things like fences, climb over debris, and vault your cover. This may mean that there will be even more exploration as you have access to things that may be hiding behind a waist high wall.

At the end of the gameplay, we are told that the game will be released on March 15, 2019. I can’t say I’m terribly excited for this one as I have been for some other E3 announcements, but I’m interested to see what comes of this new entry into the Tom Clancy roster.
